Amy Shake, Soprano

Amy Shake is a voice teacher, performer, and music director residing and teaching in New York State's Capital District.

Amy studied Vocal Performance and Pedagogy at Fredonia School of Music, where she subsequently served as Adjunct Instructor of Voice and maintained a private voice studio. Former students are pursuing careers in opera, musical theatre, music education, music therapy, and even stand-up comedy. She uses creativity with all of her students to personalize their learning, and constantly works to gain and teach new perspectives of music and singing. Her use of classical technique in singing and teaching has created a brand of consistent and intelligent singers around the country, no matter their preferred musical style. Through her experience as a theater camp counselor, music director, voice teacher and clinician, Amy has taught students of all ages, from young children to adults, and beginners to more advanced performers.

As a performer, ”steel-clad soprano” Amy Shake has been noted as, “an effervescent delight” with “a great deal of subtlety…in communication of text.” Highlights of Amy’s career have included her portrayals of Queen of the Night (The Magic Flute), Mabel (The Pirates of Penzance), Olympia (Les Contes d’Hoffmann), Cunegonde (Candide), Marian Paroo (The Music Man), First Witch/Spirit (Dido and Aeneas), and Annina (La Traviata). She has performed roles and scenes throughout the US and Europe with ensembles such as Hubbard Hall Opera Theatre, MosaicArts, Hillman Opera Company, the Western New York Chamber Orchestra, and Lyric Arts International.
